About the Contributor
Mr. Walsh is a Senior Research Engineer at the US Army’s Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover, NH. He has been working in the field of military munitions impact on the environment since 1993. Significant projects include the White Phosphorus remediation project at the Eagle River Flats impact area, Ft. Richardson, AK; SERDP-funded research on the deposition of energetics from the firing and detonation of military munitions; development of an excess propellant burn pan for environmentally-resposnible training of artillery crews; and the discovery of perchlorate contamination resulting from training with PAX-21 insensitive munitions. His current research is focussed on detonation residues from new insensitive munitions and revisions in the Life Cycle Environmental Assessment process. He is chair of several NATO committees on environmental impacts of training on military ranges.
